Counting down the days till Ramadan!!
Ramadan it my favourite time of the year, why you may ask? Well let me take you back to Ramadan last year!
Blog Diary- 10th July 2014
This year was by far the most rewarding! For
those who don’t know what Ramadan is, it is the ninth month of the Islamic
calendar, for a whole month Muslims across the world fast from dawn to dusk.
During this month we try to give up all bad habits, instead, we spend most of
our time, studying and learning Islamic knowledge, reciting and learning the
Holy Quran, Praying, giving charity and helping the needy. It also gives us an
experience on how the poor live, being refrained from
food and drinks makes us appreciate what God has blessed us with.
Why a whole month you may ask? Firstly we are
obligated to fast for the whole month of Ramadan (From the Quran), and Secondly
it is scientifically proven that in order to break a habit one should have
complete abstinence of that habit for about 30 days, by then the person
wouldn’t have to worry about continuously struggling to indulge in a habit. (It
is also mentioned in “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrn)
I spent the first 15 days of Ramadan at
home (Kurdistan). Starting off the day by helping my mum cook and make
delicious desserts for when we break our fast!! YUMM!! Then I spend the rest of
the day reading the Holy Quran along with a few extra prayers until 30 minutes
before it is time to break our fast, that’s when the kitchen is wild! Lol where
each member of the family is helping in doing something, it’s mostly us girls
who set the table and the boys carrying in the heavy plates of food!!
After we break our fast and pray Maghrib (one of the
5 daily prayers). The whole family get ready and head downstairs between
building D and E!!
What it between building D and E you may ask? Well
as soon as you stand between those buildings you see big mats spread on the
grass, two speakers placed on the side walk, and two air conditioners on high!
You’ll see all these men and woman out of their homes to pray as a jumaa (a
group), with the men standing in front and the woman behind them, creating the
most extraordinary atmosphere! No matter how much I describe it, it wouldn’t be
enough!
The next
15 days!
The next 15 days we spent it in the UAE. The
reasons why is because to me it is the best place to be in Ramadan, with the
most beautiful mosques and Sheikhs with angelic voices bringing you to tears!
Every day after we broke our fast we were off to
different mosques, where we prayed Tawareeh and Tahajud! There was one mosque
in particular that I LOVED! As soon as the Sheikh started the prayer tears
rolled down my cheeks one after the other from the sound of his voice that
brought out the beauty of each verse. Two hours of praying seemed like
minutes!
On the
26th day of Ramadan we went to Abu Dhabi to Shiekh Zayed Mosque, we prayed
Maghrib and Taraweeh! ANDDD
MASHALLA
it was SOOOO beautiful!!!! See for yourself!!
