Where love and respect varies

Between Islam, Judaism and Christianity.

We call this bringing peace?

Instead of dropping weapons

Bombs are dropped on streets.

A child unable to speak but only cry

Sees his mother covered in blood, but doesn’t know why.

A child unable to understand but feel

Is hungry, for where is his mother with his meal?

A child so innocent and so alone,

Doesn’t know he’s on LIVE.

For in other parts of the world

He’s on their screens

Yet they’re all at the living room table

Ignoring him, living like kings and queens.

Tell me again why we label others, as though there’s no connection?

As a child you and I have been surrounded by love and affection,
So what makes a Muslim, Jewish or Christian child any different?

Have you ever felt uncomfortable being around someone simply because you know very well that they aren’t being themselves? That every single sentence that comes out of their mouth is a lie in order to impress you? Don’t you just hate it?

Because of these experiences I’ve personally had with people, I wanted to make sure that before I teach myself everything about elegance, I must first and foremost learn how to be elegant from within before walking around balancing a book on my head lol.

So how can I be elegant from the inside?

Self-Confidence.

So how can I be self-confident?

Filtering:

Firstly cleanse your surroundings, just like how water is filtered, you must filter toxic people from your life. People who make you feel inferior, people who throw words at you to bring you down and people who do not wish to see you succeed. I’m not saying unfriend them on Facebook and unfollow them on twitter and Instagram, or ignore their messages. I mean try to stay away from them and start being around people who make you feel good about yourself, people who have goals and ambitions. Those people bring out that unique and special person you really are!


Focusing:

Stop thinking about your problems and your regrets, look forward. Instead focus on solutions to your problems and the goals you wish to achieve.  Learn to forgive yourself and the people around you. Keep looking forward and never look back because staying in the past wont get you closer to the person you’re striving to be.

Finding:

Learn to love yourself, learn to see how beautiful you are, we are all unique in our own way. We all have that one thing that makes us beautiful, find it! Whether it’s your personality, sense of humor, talent etc. Learn to express yourself and take pride in the things you do. Find something that you are good at. There must be something even if it seems small, others will see it differently, trust me. There are so many times I would do something and find it normal but the people around me found it amazing and I looked at them like they’re mental hahaha but later on I learnt to take pride in the things I do and learnt to accept compliments from other people of the things I do.

Part 1 - Introduction:

After researching for quite some time, I reached a conclusion as to why some people are able to attract other people’s attention. What is it about their character that makes them so attractive?

For example, if we were to look at famous movies, we might have noticed certain women that are very attracting. Women like Sandra Bullock and Lily Collins in The Blind Side, Kate Winslet in Titanic and Sense & Sensibility, Carey Mulligan in The Great Gatspy and Keira Knightly in Pride and Prejudice.

Personally I love watching them, I love the way the characters carry themselves, the way they walk, talk, dress etc. But the question is what is it that we find so amazing about them?

They’re Elegant.  

What's so amazing about being elegant? 

Well, think about it yourself. Have you ever come across someone who you wish you could be like? It maybe someone who you find to be so beautiful in the inside, someone who has a lot of self- confidence, someone who is always happy and positive or maybe you admire the fact that they are respected by everyone else, someone who just seems to have the perfect life!  

If you have come across that someone who has all these qualities or even one, then that person has shown the characteristic of being elegant.

It has been a few weeks I’ve been researching on elegance, because growing up I have always had a picture in mind of the person I wanted to be. Every year I have a version of how I wish the future me could be. This year I picture my future self to be an independent and respected elegant woman. I wish to learn a lot about etiquette because as Giorgio Armani says "Elegance is not about being noticed, it’s about being remembered."

I am going to take you with me on the journey to my better understanding on How to be Elegant. Whatever I have learnt I will post in Part 2.

Today as soon as I woke up, I felt the need to write, but about what? I didn’t know. I went online to find different topics I could write about, as I was scrolling down to the different ideas people suggested, I came across “Write what’s on your mind”. After staring at the screen for God knows how long, I have concluded exactly what has been on my minds for not days, but months!

Living in London has changed my life in every way a person’s life can be changed.

After only a year here, I am closer to the person I’ve always wanted to become. I have changed my old ways and have adapted new ones. I no longer listen to music, and I have adapted a new habit of learning new things to broaden my knowledge of the religion I believe in.

Yes, you read it correctly… I no longer listen to music lol. I’m not saying I mute the TV when a song comes on, I mean I don’t intentionally listen to music anymore. I haven’t had a song in my phone for months now. I know for some of you thats just weird, but to be honest after doing so, I now am so much calmer, so much happier then I was when I knew every song that was released. If you ask me now to listen to any song, I’m 100% sure I wouldn’t enjoy it.

A person’s life can not change just because they’ve stopped doing something negative, a persons life changes once they’ve adapted something positive in their life instead. Though I stopped listening to music, I started listening to Islamic lectures, and the more I listened, the more I felt peace and happiness within me. I listened to stories of the prophets, from that I learnt how to treat others and to never give up on what it right. I learnt how important it is to love and respect people around me, starting with my family. I learnt how blessed I am, though I live a simple life I feel as though I am the happiest person in the world.

Travelled to Barcelona with my best friend (Mina Al-Hawayi) and what an incredible holiday it was! This picture was taken in Camp Nou just a day before the El Clasico! We were very proud of our shirts as you can see lol. (A little tip for anyone who's planning to travel with a friend, if he/she is studying architecture don't be surprised if they drag you to every single "awesome" building in the city. It may seem like an ordinary building to you but take my advice and just keep your opinion to yourself and just smile and act impressed! (love you mina hahahaha)

Ramadan is just around the corner! Yes I know we hear the words Ramadan Ramadan Ramadan so many times! But WAIT! Lets just stop there! Let us understand what Ramadan really means.

What does the word Ramadan mean?

The word Ramadan comes from the word Ramadh in Arabic which means severe heat. This heat kills all the negativity within us, both physically and spiritually.

Ramadan is like a school, just how we go to school from year 1 to 12 and graduate with a diploma. The school life in Ramadan is only 30 days and you either pass or you fail. Those who pass are the ones who not only fast from dawn till dusk but those refrain from using bad language and bad behavior. And must importantly whose who use this month to rekindle their relationship with their maker.

What does God say about Fasting?

The almighty God says whatever you do in life that is good, you are doing for your own benefit, everything except fasting, fasting you do for me and I will reward those who fast.

Is it true that one of the days of Ramadan will equal to 83 years?

YES! Long ago before the prophet, the life expectancy of a human was about 400 years or even more, but at the time of our prophet God gave us this month and in this month there is a specific day in which whatever good deed we do it is as though we’ve been doing it for 83 YEARS!

Why you may ask?

We could argue that long ago people lived longer; therefore they had more years to do good! So God gives us this month to be fair to us, so that even though we live for about 60 years we can be rewarded just as much as people who lived before us.

Why do Muslims Fast in Ramadan?

Ramadan is a “Training” month, it is scientifically proven that in order to change a bad habit or adapt to a good one, one must practice doing so for around 30 days, by that time it will be part of the person’s lifestyle. And so we abstain from all desires (Food desires, Sexual desires etc.) for 30 days. From doing so after the month is over we appreciate what we are blessed with (food, spouses etc.).

We also rebuild our connection with God, we read Quran more, we pray more and we ask forgiveness for any sin we might have committed. Therefore after the 30 days are over we will have changed for the better.

So Muslims are only religious in Ramadan?

No. We live in a world where we are being controlled by negative vibes. As a baby we come into this world innocent. But as we grow we sometimes adopt bad behavior from our surroundings. All humans no matter what religion believe in the devil. We all know that there are devils around us that make us commit sins. We don’t realize this, but once we look back at our past we say

“Why on earth did I do that?”

In Ramadan we Muslims take advantage of this month, as the devil is locked up, being religious and close to God becomes effortless which is why we try to increase our connect with him. Using the example of Mufti Menk he explains this month as a stone thrown with a catapult. In this month we use all our energy to pull, to absorb our religion so that when the month it over and we let go the stone keeps gliding for the next 11 months.
